When it comes to the world of comic books and comic book fans enjoying their world in another form other than comics video games has always been to me the holy grail for us. Unfortunately most video games and I say most because there have been a few good ones over the years not many though. Most have them have been pretty poor products only brought to market just to capitalize on a superheroes good name.
Well that may all be changing for everyone in the next year with the release of the new MMO DC Universe Online. With the incredible popularity of MMO games the potential for this game is huge of course right now that’s all it is, potential. With the long and tattered record of comic book video games a lot of us comic book fans have a lot of reasons to be skeptical.
Enough about that though I will keep my past disappointments in check at least until I get my hands on the DC Universe. So far based on all that I have read and the game play footage that is out there now I do like what I see for the most part. The game will be available on the PC and PS3 and is an MMO which is a first for PS3. The looks and art direction of the game look fantastic all being done by Jim Lee who is not only an amazing artist but a big gamer too which is a plus.
I love the concept of creating your own super hero or super villain instead of playing a set cast of comic book characters. Being able to create your own with it’s mix of powers and abilities I thought was a stroke of genius. So far they have shown two locations that being Gotham City and Metropolis and the cast of characters that will be in the game at last count from what I saw was over 100! Then you add in people all over the world signing in and creating their own villains or superheroes and we will have a huge living growing DC Universe!
Keep our fingers crossed that the game developers stay on task with this one and we see it released 2009 or early 2010
