Comic Books And Graphic Novels In Hollywood Oh My

Have you heard about the latest comic book that is going to be made into a movie? I think it would be an honest statement to say that Hollywood is fully engrossed in making comic books and graphic novels into movies. Feels like every time you turn around there are rumors of another Hollywood studio kicking around a story idea from a graphic novel or comic book as the source material. Don’t  get me wrong as a fan of comic books and graphic novels this is great news as far as I am concerned. As long as they do the movie right and keep the look and feel of the film close to the original source material.

Some of the more recent comic book rumours that I have read lately that somewhat concern me as a fan of the original comics. The comic book movie rumour that there is a Hollywood studio out there kicking around the idea of “rebooting” the Fantastic Four again. I wish there was a way to unsee the two movies that have already been done for the Fantastic Four, unfortunately there is not. There is some great source material there for stories to follow for the Fantastic Four it’s just unfortunate that they could not create the right tone for the movies.

Hobo #511 -- Thor the ThumbhammerI suppose there is hope if they do reboot the series. After all the second generations of Batman and Incredible Hulk were way better than the original attempts at comic book movies. The second rumour which is not a rumour anymore and has been confirmed for quite a while concerns the comic book movie Thor. The choice of Kenneth Branagh as the director for the movie has a lot of fans of the comic book movie Thor questioning the direction that Marvel is going to take with this movie.

On a positive note for the Thor movie there have been a lot of rumors as to who Kenneth Branagh was going to pick for the new Thor movie with no confirmed word on who that might be. Latest rumor for Thor is  the actor Alexander Skarsgard who is best known right now for his work on HBO in their shows Generation Kill and True Blood.  I would love this choice as Thor he is a big young guy who has great presence on screen and is due to have a break out big budget movie roll. Let’s hope this rumor becomes a fact for the benefit of the Thor movie.

Last point for today is the great success we are seeing for the long awaited movie version of the graphic novel the Watchmen. I thoroughly enjoyed the vision that Zack Snyder put out for the Watchmen Graphic Novel. I know some hardcore fans that were upset with the “alternate ending” and I won’t say anything beyond that for those you that have read the book but not seen the movie yet. I did not have a problem with the new ending and the way they worked it into the story was played out well. The majority of the movie was done pretty true to the original source material that Alan Moore wrote so long ago except of course for the ending 8-)
