Motion Comics Gaining Momentum

I saw in the news today that comic books are finding a new audience through a very brand new medium. Looks like motion comics are gaining some ground in popularity as a new series was released from the studio that brought us the Watchmen Motion Comic, Warner Premier. It turns out that this blending of classic old comic book stories and new media techniques is becoming a big deal in the distribution of comic books.

This also happens to be another feather in the cap of iTunes as they have become the sole distributor of these new digital comic books. The first motion comic book series released was a 12 issue release of the Watchmen. The idea and the concept behind the motion comic book is to use the original art work and simply add voice overs booming soundtracks and little bits of motion at key moments in the stories. Nothing too drastic but Warner Premier have struck just the right cord with their mix to create a top seller in the iTunes library.

The Legend of the BatmanNow Warner Premier is doing it again as they have announced the release of an all new “freshening” of another classic comic book. Batman Black and White which will include five episodes of two shorts which again can only be found at iTunes so those of you die hard Batman comic book fans head on over to your iTunes account and break out your 99cents. Again it’s a simple blending of the original artwork with some solid voice over and background music to set the tone.

I really do love the concept and the simplicity of these motion comic books. I really appreciate the fact that they have not gone overboard and made them into full fledged animated shorts. Warner Premier has so far manage to keep the products very true to the original art work simply adding the voice overs and soundtrack is really a stroke of genius. I hope that this really takes off and we begin to see a whole library of motion comics coming to iTunes from all the comic book studios. What are your thoughts on the motion comics? Have you seen either the Watchmen or Batman series yet? If so what are your thoughts on the potential this has for increasing the popularity of comic books in general?
