Back in September DC comics announce the New 52 which was essentially their relaunching of their digital side of comic book distribution. Early reports are indicating that it has been a success for all as I have seen a few reports stating the direct sales numbers for October were the biggest in two years as they surpassed $40 million. Needless to say the digital comic side of things was a big part of that number.
That big month of October gives the comic book industry as a whole a really good shot at beating their sales numbers from last year which would be a nice thing to say considering the fragile state of the industry. It’s no secret that comic book sales have been declining for years and they are struggling to find their digital footing so to speak.
So I am wondering if the new cheaper tablets that are being shipped now by Amazon and their direct competitor Barnes & Nobles releasing the Kindle Fire and Nook tablet. Both of these tablets are coming in at a very affordable price of $250 or less and both are going to open up a whole new digital market for the comic book industry. The question of course is will distributors like DC and Marvel be able to tap into this new tablet market? I think there is some real potential here for everyone involved with digital comic book distribution to prosper if they can lock down the right type of pricing and gain the proper exposure.
What say you webfolk? Will the new cheaper tablet market help boost the sales numbers for digital comics? Leave your opinions in the comments section down below and for those of you interested in reading more about the sales number for comic books in October and for the year here is the link to that as well.
Kudos to you webfolk ![]()
